Those who don't know about fashion or simply have no notion of how to look good, often don't manage to dress better, no matter how hard they try. And I'm not lying, there are men (maybe few, but there are some) that They never hit the nail on the head when it comes to putting together their outfits.

Why is this happening? Well, because ignore things they should NOT overlook when you want to dress well. The point is that paying attention to these details could change your life, finding your own style or helping you to feel more confident.

This could translate into more eyes being focused on you, or, people seeing you as more attractive. Well, that said, let's see what are those things you should NOT do if you want to dress better.

  1. Forgetting your weight, your build and your height

Build, weight and height are three factors to take into account when dressing. Because yes, most of the industry makes clothes for the model body, but not all of us have the figure that is sold to us on TV and social media.

So, you should constantly play with the possibilities you have to buy clothes where you live and be careful with that. Here are two examples:

  • If you are a tall and slim person and wear things that are very close to the body, you will look even slimmer.
  • On the other hand, if you are a person who is quite heavy, there are clothes that flatter you in the same way. I would suggest not wearing clothes that are too close to the body.

At the end of the day, it is extremely important that you know your body measurements. so you can shop for clothes with greater confidence.

  • Wearing the wrong size clothing

Ignoring the size of the clothes you want to buy is a huge mistake. This is key to dressing better and feeling comfortable when moving around.

For example, (and I see this very often), wearing T-shirts that are too long for your body type, make your torso look much longer than your legs do.

Or likewise the length of the trousers. Remember that everything will depend on the intention you have for dressing, the right length of trousers is that they break just at your ankle or a little bit lower (not too much).

  • Ignoring the proportions of the outfit

There's this thing called the law of thirds and it makes your outfit look more aesthetically pleasing. I'm going to explain how it works. And it's basically that the part of the torso, i.e. your shirt or your poletake up a third of your entire outfit, while the length of the trousers should occupy the other two thirds.

What is this for? To make you look slimmer and more aesthetically pleasing. Of course, achieving this involves wear slightly longer garments. It's very simple, you just need to have a visible waistline. If, for example, you wear a t-shirt a little bit below, try to wear it with a very marked line between your torso and where your trousers start.

Respecting this law of thirds makes it possible for everyone to dress better, whether they are small or very tall.

  • Matching the wrong trousers with the wrong pair of sneakers

This can completely ruin an outfit and I'll give you an example.. Now that skate style sneakers, such as Vans, are so fashionable, if you wear these shoes with skinny trousers, you will clearly not look good because they will look disproportionate.

This type of footwear, which is a bit more bulky, goes much better with wide trousers. The same as if you wear extremely thin shoes, such as the trainers that are in fashion right now, it is best to complement them with trousers that go with the same aesthetic.

  • Ignoring styling

Styling is really what makes any outfit come alive. What do I mean? A use accessories that complement your outfit, that elevate it, that give it more flavour or more seasoning (whatever you want to call it).

If you wear a white t-shirt with a pair of jeans and sneakers, you're missing an opportunity to make that outfit look amazing. How do you style it better? Use accessories like:

  • Chains
  • Watches
  • Wristbands
  • Caps
  • Glasses
  • Belts
  • Earrings...

This is entirely a matter of personal taste, However, when you focus on the styling of an outfit, it gives it a lot more life and will make you dress better, to the point of learn how to create timeless styles.

  • Don't buy better quality clothes in order to dress better

Buying quality clothes makes your outfit will increase the chances that you will be able to dress better. And mind you, this is regardless of the brand and price, as they have no direct relation to the quality of the garment.

You can find incredible quality garments at very low prices. Why is this important? Because when the clothes look of poor quality, it automatically makes the outfit not stand out.

Poor quality garments tend to look ugly very quickly, They lose their colour, their shape and often have a bad pattern. My recommendation is that you try to buy garments of the highest possible quality. How do you distinguish between them?

  • Look at the seams, make sure they are well made, well finished.
  • See the garment also has a good structure and that cotton feels good.
  • If they are natural fibres, for example linen or cotton or silk, make sure they have a good texture and are well made. This makes all the difference. There is nothing worse than seeing a garment that has been washed a couple of times and has lost its shape at the neck. It's terrible.

After all, start by considering these six things you should NOT do if you want to dress better and watch your self-esteem soar. Then take a look at the clothes we've got at Gerrys Tropez for you to put together looks that will make you stand out from the crowd.
