Dressing is an art. Non-fashionistas may think and say that it is not, but it is. In fact, men who master this art are more likely to attract women and do business with others.

Because yes, your image says a lot more than you think it does. And it can be a harsh reality, but people do judge you by the way you look. So, dressing well or looking smart is something that can give you an edge in this appearance-driven, image-driven society.

A true businessman is discreet, low-profile and moves in the shadows. This is not to say that you can't wear street clothes, but you must be a professional at all times and know how to reflect that you take your life and your business seriously.

Here I'm going to show you how to find your own style of dress so you look professional, without dying trying.

Tailor-made suits

Getting tailor-made suits is very important for every man (and even more so if you're in business) at some point in your life. And that means you choose the material, you get it fitted and you choose exactly how it fits.

The three colours I would recommend starting with are black, navy blue and grey. Black, for example, is great for high-level business occasions.. Well, you'll be taken very seriously with a suit in this shade.

In fact, at black tie events people will know you are a professional compared to the man wearing black trousers and black tie with a white creased shirt.

Smart casual

Something I never used to do, but I found it very easy to adopt so that people see you as a professional in non-business environments. And that's because by adopting the smart casual style in your life, you get more attention, iEven if you try it, you will be treated better when you travel.

This way of dressing, on the other hand, doesn't require a lot of investment. A smart shirt costs next to nothing, and always opt for smart trousers and have a pair of trainers within easy reach.

No logos

Please don't wear logos on your clothes. If you wear a polo shirt, try not to have a brand image printed on it, because will detract from the elegance of your outfit. Pair this piece of clothing with a nice smart-looking watch (and loafers), you'll look great.

It may sound like overkill, but you'll look like a pro. None of these clothes are expensive, so you don't have to break the bank to look stylish. Don't confuse luxury and paraphernalia with elegance, okay?

Shoes

A pair of trainers will always come in handy in environments where you don't need to wear a formal look, but one pair of shoes you must have in your wardrobe are the Oxfords

You'll need them to make your bespoke suits stand out even more in corporate environments. You'll project an unparalleled elegance that won't go unnoticed by those around you.

Moccasins They can't be missing in your shoe collection either, as they look good and are quite comfortable on those hot days.

Luggage

You may be wondering, what does luggage have to do with my style of dress? When you're a businessman, there can't be anything that's out of place. So invest in stylish luggage that match your style, while walking in the business lounge or through the airport.

A good suitcase will also last you a long time. Go for a black leather one for hand luggage, whether you're going to the gym or doing anything else. And another dark suitcase for your clothes.

Accessories

Let's start with the wallet. If you're walking around with a Velcro wallet, all your efforts to look like a pro will be wasted, and even worse if it's got cartoons on it.

A business gentleman has to carry a level wallet. Now, when I say high-end, I don't mean expensive, but if you open a velcro wallet on a date or at a business meeting, it won't look good. Get a smart leather wallet in black or dark brown.

What other accessories will allow you to enhance your outfit? I'll mention them for you:

  • Ring (silver or gold)
  • Stylish sunglasses
  • Watches
  • Brown or black leather belts.
  • Lighters or cigarette lighters (smoking or not)
  • Perfumes or fragrances
  • Hats

In short, remember that how you are seen is how you will be treated in this society.. I don't want to sound shallow or materialistic but, as I said, there are those who will judge you by the way you dress and if you are a businessman you must show class whether you like it or not. This will open doors for you to build alliances, people will respect you and you will feel good about yourself.
